You don't need to be training for a marathon to benefit from Zone 2. Brisk walking, easy cycling, light jogging, and swimming at a steady pace can all qualify, depending on your individual fitness level.
The talk test remains the simplest gauge: maintain a pace at which you could carry on a conversation without laboring. If you're breathing too hard to complete sentences, ease off. A heart rate monitor adds precision and removes guesswork, especially for those whose perception of effort can drift during longer sessions.
